Measure Perimeter on a Map
How to Measure the Perimeter of an Area Online
Measuring the perimeter on a map allows you to calculate the total length of an object’s boundary. The perimeter is the total length of a closed polyline that outlines the shape of an area, land plot, building, or any other object. In other words, the perimeter is the length of the boundary of a closed line created by projecting an object onto the Earth’s surface.
How to Measure Perimeter on a Map
To measure the perimeter online, use our map-based distance measurement tool . To calculate the perimeter, you need to click on the New Calculation button. And perform the following actions:
- Use the search bar to find the location of the object you want to measure
- Switch from Map view to Satellite view for higher accuracy
- Clicking on the map to mark the boundary points of the object.
- Continue adding points along the outline — the total perimeter length will update automatically
- Place the final point close to the starting point to close the shape and complete the perimeter measurement
Check the Accuracy of the Perimeter Measurement
You can check the accuracy of the measurement on the map by comparing the result with calculations of the perimeter of an object whose dimensions you know.
The perimeter formula is simple — it is the sum of all sides of a geometric figure. To check the result, find a building with known dimensions, manually add the lengths of all sides using a calculator, and then measure the same object using our distance measurement tool on the map.
